Data Kit for GSP-2900 Fixed Satellite Phone
Globalstar's Fixed Data Cable and Network Interconnect Device connects the Fixed Phone unit with a DB-9 serial cable to a computer's RS232 port for access to the Internet, e-mail systems and private networks. Includes Network Interconnect Device Box with 50ft cable and Globalstar CD-ROM containing set-up programs and User Guide.
Data services from Globalstar allow you to go beyond the limits of cellular data services. You can attach your satellite phone to a laptop, computer, or PDA to connect to the Internet and email systems. Users do not have to be limited to using the keys on a phone keypad, and can use all the features and displays of a laptop, computer or PDA.
Globalstar Data Services provide 9.6 Kbp speeds, using the reliability of satellite communications via two methods:
1) Direct Internet Access (#777): Enables you to connect to the Internet and web-based email systems*. Globalstar acts as the Internet Service Provider (ISP) allowing you to browse web sites and send and receive e-mails.
2) Direct Dial-Up Access: Allows you to connect to private networks, which may not be accessible via the Internet, by simply dialing the 11-digit number you want to connect to. Direct Dial-up also allows access to your existing ISP over their standard dial up access for web browsing or access to your mail on their mail server.
Currently Direct Internet Access is only available in Canada, United States, Caribbean, Argentina and Brazil.

- Direct Dial-up Access - software version 5.2 or higher
- A computer, PDA, or other computer devices capable of Internet access using dial-up PPP (Point to Point Protocol) via an external modem connection

GSP 2900 Data Services - Remote Terminated Data Service (RTD)
Globalstar offers an optional Remote Terminated Data Service (RTD) for the GSP 2900 Fixed Phone.
Description
This service offers a user the ability to establish data calls with a remote monitoring system via the GSP 2900 and the Globalstar Satellite Network. A GSP 2900 configured with the RTD service allows the client to dial into the remote site, and poll, download or upload information to and from the monitoring equipment. Allows sites that have intelligent meters to make standard meter readings and have the head office call out for software updates, special unscheduled data calls, etc.
Normally, the GSP 2900 Fixed Phone can receive and send voice calls. When RTD service is enabled, the following will result: For Inbound calling, the fixed phone can only receive data calls - no voice calls.
For Outbound calling, the fixed phone can continue to send voice and data (Direct Internet & Direct Dial-up) calls.
Companies that would benefit from this service would be those who require remote monitoring, SCADA, and unmanned data retrieval.
There is no additional charge to activate Remote Terminated Data.
