Wacky Wireless News: Charge Your Phone Using Furniture
Posted on Apr 29th 2015
Imagine coming home after a long day on the job and setting your cell phone on the coffee table for a quick recharge - without digging for cables or rearranging chargers in outlets. Well, guess what? This technology is closer than you may think.
Furniture giant IKEA is launching a new line of side tables and lamps that offer built-in Qi wireless charging technology. This technology is currently featured in only a handful of phones, like the new Samsung Galaxy S6, but iPhone loyalists can purchase Qi-enabled charging covers that will allow them to ditch cables as well.
We’re not entirely sure how to pronounce product names like NORDLI, NORDMÄRKE, or SELJE - but then again, Qi is a tough one too (it’s pronounced “chee”).
We recommend assembling this furniture in quiet room by yourself, preferably as far away as possible from your spouse, children and/or roommates to avoid relationship-ending assembly disagreements. On the bright side, Ikea claims that assembly doesn't require screws so you won't have to worry about tearing up your home to find that tiny lost piece.
