The Difference Between MS v. UC Headsets
Posted on Jun 10th 2020
If you’re on the market for a new headset, you may notice some of them either say MS, and some say UC. There can be a lot of nuances when it comes to headsets – wireless or wired, duo or mono, Bluetooth, and so on. We’re here to help make this process as easy as possible for you.
Let’s break down MS vs. UC.
When you see a headset labeled “MS,” that means it is optimized for Microsoft Skype for Business (or Microsoft Lync). This is because Microsoft has specific requirements to integrate their software with headsets. If you use Microsoft programs, it’s as simple as a plug and play experience. There may also be some benefits, such as specific features to easily answer, end, and mute calls, adjust volume, and so on. If you don’t use Microsoft programs, the headset will still work, but it has just been wired to perform best with Microsoft Skype for Business.
Headsets labeled “UC” stand for Unified Communications. Without getting too into the weeds here, you can think of UC headsets as ideal for phone and video calls not happening on Microsoft programs. However, UC headsets will still work with Microsoft software, but they don’t have the quick access buttons, so they are not optimized. If you are stacked with calls over Slack or Google Hangouts, with a UC headset, you can ensure you will be heard.
No matter what headset you end up choosing, you’ll be blown away at how much it will help your workload.
