Motorola Finiti (HZ800) Bluetooth Headset
CAFL Web Team Rating:
The Motorola Finiti HZ800 Bluetooth Headset is the latest product in our line of high-end Bluetooth headsets. The Finiti boasts a range of powerful features, including three microphones for advanced noise-canceling abilities, “Stealth Mode” which can be turned on in extremely noisy environments, and Motorola’s MOTOSPEAK application for Android smartphones, which allows users to listen to and dictate text messages. The Finiti also offers A2DP Bluetooth profile for streaming music, podcasts, or GPS directions from your phone, as well as MultiPoint technology to connect two mobile phones at once and answer the one that rings.
Sound Quality
With three advanced microphones and the latest noise-reduction technology, the Motorola Finiti delivers near-perfect sound quality - even in noisy conditions. Most callers could not tell we were using a headset, meaning the voice transmission is similar to using the phone by itself (always a good sign). The incoming audio was loud and clear with easy-to-reach volume controls to adjust the loudness of the Finiti’s speaker.
The Motorola Finiti also features bone conduction technology, which translates the vibrations of the jaw into speech. This feature is referred to as “Stealth Mode” which can be turned on and off for use in extremely loud environments. Stealth Mode completely wipes out background noise, allowing those on the receiving end of calls to hear your voice clearly. During our testing, callers said our voice in Stealth Mode sounded slightly muffled, but overall very useful when used in loud environments.
Ease of Use
Setting up and using the Motorola Finiti is simple thanks to voice prompts that inform you of settings, battery level, incoming calls and more. After listening to the Caller ID information through the headset, users can control calls with voice commands such “answer” and “ignore” for a total handsfree experience. Our only complaint was the call button’s size and location – small and located at the top end of the headset, it can be challenging to push without having to re-adjust the headset on your ear. However, it should be easy for users to adjust to this small flaw as the headset is very simple and convenient to use overall.
Comfort
At first glance, the earpiece on the Motorla Finiti is intimidating, with a long earpiece that juts out to fit snuggly inside the ear. A small button on the outer edge of the earpiece must be slightly depressed in the ear canal in order for Stealth Mode to work by sensing jawbone vibrations during speech. However, the Motorola Finiti is actually very comfortable and includes various sizes of gel eartips that users can exchange for the most comfortable and secure fit. An optional ear hook is also included, but the headset felt stable in the ear without it.
Overall
We found the Motorola Finiti to be one of our highest-rated Bluetooth headsets, with call quality and features that justify its position as a high-end device. Stealth Mode makes this headset perfect for those who frequent loud or noisy environments. Android users can enjoy handsfree texting while on the road, but even non-smartphone owners will still find that the voice commands and prompts make this headset convenient and safe to use while on the road.
