Make Your Phone Watersafe Without a Case
Posted on Aug 17th 2012
There are case options for protecting your smartphone or tablet from water damage. But what if you want to use your phone by the pool without first taking the time to lock it into a case or seal it in a plastic bag? What if you're accident-prone and your phone has suffered water damage in the past but you don't want to add bulk to your slim, sleek new smartphone?
Fortunately, there’s a solution for you, too.
Liquipel created a splash at CES 2012 in Las Vegas with their watersafe solution, a clear coating that can be sprayed over all surfaces of your phone to protect it from accidental water damage. Described as a “super-hydrophobic nano-coating,” you won't even notice there's a coating on your phone. It’s completely safe for all of your phone’s ports and buttons, so no part of the phone is compromised by the coating.
Liquipel is quick to let people know that their product is not intended to be used as an alternative to cases like Lifeproof for underwater use or complete submersion. It’s simply a way to protect your phone from liquid-related accidents – like tipping over a cup of water and watching it spill right onto your smartphone, getting caught in the rain in the middle of an important phone call, or trying to mix work and play poolside on the weekends and getting splashed as your kids show off their cannonballs.
The testing videos, however (see below), are pretty impressive and this could be an awesome preventative measure for costly water damage to smartphones or tablets.
