Fast Charge Technology: 0 to 100% in 60 Seconds

Smartphones and tablets bring the world to your fingertips – providing nearly limitless access to information and immediate communication. But the main challenge to true wireless freedom is still your smartphone’s battery. What if you could get a full charge in under 60 seconds instead of two hours?

Enter StoreDot, a Tel Aviv-based startup. They’ve created a new technology that can fully charge a phone’s battery under 60 seconds. To achieve this result, they’re using a new battery chemistry which features nanotechnology derived from bio-organic material. The electrical properties allow the battery to charge much faster than conventional lithium-ion batteries, while still maintaining a similar discharge rate.

Even though StoreDot has a working demo, there are still major challenges to overcome. StoreDot’s battery is physically larger than the one inside Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and its capacity to hold a charge is less. Despite these daunting challenges, StoreDot is confident they can conquer them within a year. From there, they’ll look to pass the testing phase for safety and longevity. This all leads to an expected mass production date of late 2016.
