Apple Launches iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Pro

Every year, Apple seems to “wow” us with something new and 2015 is no different. On Wednesday, Sept. 9th, the tech giant unveiled details of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, which are the latest in iPhone franchise. The company also confirmed some long-awaited speculation by announcing specifics of their newest tablet, the iPad Pro.

iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus

The latest line of iPhone devices, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, aren’t physically much different than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. In fact, the dimensions (4.7-inch 6S and 5.5-inch 6S Plus) are the same as previous models. However, there are some significant additions and enhancements:

  • 3D Touch, a feature that adds a pressure sensitive display that allows you to pull up different menus based on how hard you press on the screen.
  • Voice-activated Siri (similar to Amazon Echo and Android) allows users to summon the digital assistant by simply saying “Hey Siri.”
  • A new A9 chip, which Apple claims is 70 percent faster at computing tasks than last year's A8 chip.
  • The new 12-megapixel iSight camera, which is a tremendous boost from the previous phone’s 8-megapixel camera. The camera is able to shoot ultra-high resolution 4K videos.
  • Offers faster LTE and Wi-Fi wireless connections
  • Comes in four finishes: silver, gold, space gray and a new rose gold finish
  • The iPhone 6S will start at $199 and the 6S Plus start at $299 with a two-year contract.

The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be available for preorder on September 12 and available in stores on September 25.

The New iPad Pro

Apple also unveiled details of their latest tablet the iPad Pro. A larger 12.9" display is designed for enterprise-grade programs and multitasking capabilities utilizing split screen technology. Some of the features include:

  • 12.9-inch screen, 70 percent larger than the iPad Air's 9.7-inch screen
  • Battery life of up to 10 hours
  • Equipped with four speakers (two on each side) for optimal sound quality
  • A magnetic docking port on the side of the iPad can transfer data and power, and is designed for use with Apple's new Smart Keyboard
  • Smart Keyboard Accessory attaches to the side port and will cost $169
  • Apple Pencil is the patented pressure sensitive stylus priced at $99. It recharges via the iPad Pro's Lightning port, and just 15 seconds of charging will allow for 30 minutes of use (a full charge is about 12 hours in battery life).
  • The iPad Pro will be available in November for purchase
